Holiday Homework - Grade 1

English

The holiday homework activity is based on the movie ‘Baby’s Day Out’. Please watch the movie with your family.

Note:
1. All written work to be done in a scrap book. Make a decorative paper bag/ folder to keep all your holiday homework.
2. Students own work will be appreciated.

SPEAKABOO- We all like to listen to or read stories. In the movie, Baby Bink also had a favourite book which he called ‘BOO-BOO’
After watching the movie, choose any 15 to 20 new words that you learnt from the movie.
Make a Vocabulary Booklet- Write the words in a coloured sheets or a scrap book and draw/paste a picture to represent the word, as shown in the image. Learn to use these words in sentences so as to speak in front of the class as a SPEAKABOO ACTIVITY when you come back to school. This is a project-based learning.

2. Read  the rhyming word story The Fox and the grapes and choose the rhyming word from the story. Write the rhyming words in the scrap book

Rosy and ripe, and ready to box,
The grapes hang high over the hungry                                                             Fox.
He pricks up his ears without any fear
s

Ripe and rosy, yet so high!
He gazes at them with a greedy eye,
And knows he must eat and drink--or die.
He jumped up again and again
But all in vain!

When the jump proves to be beyond his power
The fox was mad and sad..
"Pooh!" says the Fox. "
those grapes are too sour!"

My Activities:
  Make your TREE OF HAPPINESS.
          ·        Draw a tree trunk on the brown paper and ask any adult to cut for you.
         ·       Stick a tree trunk on a bigger piece.
         ·       Draw leaves on the other colored paper and ask an adult to cut them.
         ·       Write one thing that makes you happy on each leaf.
         ·       Then stick the leaves to the tree trunk.
         ·       Your tree of happiness is ready.

2) The care zone
Take two halves of a coconut shell or earthen vessel/take away container. Ask an adult to help you make three holes at equal distance towards its open side. Tie sturdy thread or nylon string in these holes. Your bird feeders are ready. Put some grains in one of them and pour fresh water daily for the birds in the other. Hang the two bird feeders in your balcony and enjoy seeing the birds having their meal. We are sure, with their chirps, they will thank you for caring for them.

3. THE HUNGRY CATERPILLAR
Here is a link to watch The Very Hungry Caterpillar story. Watch it and enjoy.
On different days of the week the hungry caterpillar ate different food items and each one was different in its taste. Like the apple was sweet, the oranges were sour, the cookies were sweet, etc. you also must be eating things with different taste. Everyday whatever you eat, categorize them according to their taste and make a daily chart of the same. For eg:
Sweet
salty
sour
bitter
Cake
chips
lemon
medicine
