Glacier
- a large collection of ice or a frozen river that moves
slowly down a mountain.
Sub-glacial
lake - a lake that is permanently covered by ice
and whose water remains liquid by the pressure of the ice sheet and geothermal
heating. They often occur under glaciers or ice caps. Eg: Lake Vostok in
Antarctica

The Role of Media
Q. What is Media?
A. Media is a method of communicating information,
entertainment or other messages. Television, radio, the internet and cell
phones are all examples of commonly used media.
Q. Explain the different roles of media.

Media as a gate – keeper - In its role as a gatekeeper, the media decides which
stories and issues are important enough to the public and which are not.
2.
Media as an Agenda-Setter - Media informs the
public about the issues that exist. They decide what issues are to be discussed
by the public.

The Media as Watchdog - The word ‘watchdog’ is used to refer to a person or group of persons
that act as protector/guardian against inefficient and illegal practices. The
role of media as a watchdog is to provide the citizens with information they
must have to prevent the abuse of power.
