Louis Armstrong, the famous jazz musician and entertainer, was born in
a very poor home. His father left home before he was born, and the family
some times had very little to eat. Nevertheless, there was great love in the
Armstrong home. Louis was a cheerful, mischievous lad but one day when he was
thirteen he went a bit too far. He took a pistol and fired in the street. It
was meant as a joke but he ended up in a children’s home. This was in a way
good for him because he could devote all his time to music.
