a) Natural Resource: A natural resource refers to elements or things found in the environment such as land, water and minerals. .
b) Human Resource: Human resource refers to people, while capital resources refer to money, tools and equipment.
c) Capital Resource: Capital resources are goods made and used to produce other goods and services. Examples include buildings, machinery, tools and equipment.
FOREST AS RESOURCE

Forests support diverse life forms. A forest provides three ingredients essential for the survival of any living species: water, food and shelter.

Benefits of Trees:
·        Trees are home to many creatures.
·         Without trees and the forests, our planet would not be able to support most living things or organisms.
·         More than 90% of all species living on land make their homes in trees and forests.
·        Trees act like the lungs of the earth.
·        Trees help the planet breathe by purifying the air and providing oxygen.

3. What is Afforestation?
Ans: Afforestation is the process of establishing a forest on land that is not a forest, or has not been a forest for a long time by planting trees or their seeds.

4. What are the benefits of Afforestation?
·         Preserves Wildlife :
Afforestation is useful especially when it comes to protecting wildlife.
·        Tourist Attraction :
A forest is more attractive to the eye than a waste land and also encourages ecotourism.
·        Minimises Soil Erosion
Soil erosion is significantly reduced as tree plantations prevent run off of soil after heavy rains.
·        Provides Forest Products
The explosion of livestock and human population has increased demand for forest and timber products.
·        Stabilises the Climate:
Planting of trees in semi-arid areas attracts rainfall and prevents semi arid areas from becoming deserts.

5. What is deforestation?
Ans: Deforestation is the removal of a forest or stand of trees after which the land is converted to a non-forest use. Examples of deforestation include conversion of forestland to farms, ranches, or urban use.

6) What are the causes of deforestation?
Ans: The main causes of deforestation are logging, mining, oil and gas extraction, cattle ranching and agriculture.

7) What are the Consequences of Deforestation ?
·        Soil erosion: loss of the protective vegetation cover that binds the soil with its roots leads to more soil being lost.
·        Silting of water courses, lakes and dams: occurs as a result of soil erosion.
·        Extinction of Species:  more than half of all species on our planet live in forests and deforestation destroys their habitat.
·        Desertification: deforestation is one of the contributing factors for desertification.
