Science

Write the following content given below in your science note book. Also draw diagrams for the same as shown in class. Submit the same on Tuesday, 14/3/17.

Study the underlined words for a dictation on the following day,(13/3/17)

Canal - a man-made waterway, usually connected to lakes, rivers, or oceans
Creek - a small stream
Dam - a barrier across flowing water that stops, directs or slows down the flow, often creating a reservoir.
Reservoir - an artificial lake, used to store water for various uses.

Lake - a body of water, usually freshwater contained on a body of land.
Pond - a body of water smaller than a lake, especially those of man-made origin.

Moat - a deep, broad trench, filled with water, surrounding a structure or town
Ocean - a major body of salty water.
Spring - a point where groundwater flows out of the ground, and is thus where the aquifer surface meets the ground surface.S.St

Water Transport
      Water transportation was the cheapest means of transport in ancient times.
      Waterways are the natural gifts, hence they do not require large amount of expenditure.
      Water transport consists of inland and ocean waterways.
·          The inland waterways are rivers, canals and backwaters.
·        Ocean waterways are oceans and seas.  
Air Transport
      It is the fastest and the most expensive mode of transport.
       A person can fly from one place to another in a very short time.
      In case of disasters, helicopters are used to rescue people and transport people for immediate medical attention, supplying food and other essential services to the stranded people.
      Ropeways:  A ropeway is a system for transporting materials and/or passengers in carriers suspended from or controlled by ropes.
